On Monday, Piers Morgan ripped Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, calling her a “flaming hypocrite” after she was photographed maskless while seated in front of a large group of masked schoolchildren, then responded through her campaign by blaming critics for being racially insensitive.
In an opinion piece in The New York Post, Morgan began by noting, “President Abraham Lincoln once described a hypocrite as ‘the man who murdered his own parents, and then pleaded for mercy on the grounds that he was an orphan.’”
Morgan continued, “I thought of this when I saw the response by Georgia Democratic would-be governor Stacey Abrams to being caught not wearing a COVID mask as she sat surrounded by young schoolkids who were masked just as she’s demanded they should be.”
The photo of Abrams was posted by the principal of Glennwood Elementary School, Dr. Holly Brookins.
Abrams initially celebrated that the visit had been “spectacular, delightful, and outstanding.” But later she deleted that comment, Morgan pointed out, adding, “Brookins appeared to delete her entire Twitter account.”
“As the furor grew, Abrams resorted to Plan B of the Meghan ‘Princess Pinocchio” Markle woke playbook on how to deflect blame for wrongdoing: She accused everyone who criticized her hideously two-faced antics of being racially insensitive!” Morgan noted.
Abrams wrote in a statement campaign, “It is shameful that our opponents are using a Black History Month reading event for Georgia children as the impetus for a false political attack. … It is pitiful and predictable that our opponents continue to look for opportunities to distract from their failed records when it comes to protecting public health during the pandemic.”
Morgan snapped, “Oh, the irony … There was only one person who was pitifully and predictably trying to distract from her failure to protect public health — HER! What Abrams didn’t address was why she failed to wear a mask or why she’s such a flaming hypocrite.”
Abrams’ Lauren Groh-Wargo protested that Abrams only took her mask off “so she could be heard by students watching remotely and for photos. … Stacey trusts science and supports masking in schools as it’s the current CDC recommendation.”
“What utter poppycock,” Morgan wrote. “If Stacey really trusted the science, she would have worn a mask to protect both herself and those around her.”
“Dr. Anthony Fauci, who so arrogantly described himself as being science itself, initially said masks were useless protection against COVID — now he says they’re essential,” Morgan noted. “Little wonder people have lost faith in blindly ‘following the science.’ But where this mantra gets unforgivable is when it’s used to insist that young children must continue to wear masks all day at school when it’s now abundantly clear there is no imperative need for them to do so.”
Stacey Abrams claimed the critics of her hypocrisy are “pathetic, transparent and silly.” But the only pathetic, transparent and silly one in this unedifying story is the gubernatorial candidate preaching one thing and doing another. And for her to then play the race card to try to get herself off the rap is as reprehensible as her outrageous hypocrisy.
There is one positive: Through her disgraceful behavior, Stacey Abrams has exposed the sham of making America’s children continue to wear masks in school. They must be liberated from this unscientific madness as a matter of urgency.
