A drag queen scheduled to perform for House Democrats once roasted Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell on social media for his COVID-19 commentary.
A Wednesday evening reception for the House Democrats’ retreat hosted by Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chair Sean Patrick Maloney will feature “musical entertainment” from drag queen Lady Bunny, Politico Playbook reported Wednesday, noting that Lady Bunny’s shows are “known for rejecting political correctness.”
The drag queen has previously called out Swalwell for demanding that airlines ban unvaccinated flyers and suggested that President Joe Biden is both “senile” and a “liar.”
“Wow. If Dems go this route, they are begging to lose,” the drag queen tweeted in January 2022, reacting to suggestions that failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton may run again. “What will the slogan be? ‘We know Joe’s a corporate hawk and a liar. But unlike Biden, Hillary’s not senile!’”

“On a flight now to Bay Area and it is one-hundred percent batty that the unvaccinated are allowed to fly,” Swalwell tweeted in December 2021. “It’s unsafe in the cabin and we are transporting the virus. Requiring the vaccine to fly is the LEAST we can do to stop the spread.”
“I’m vaccinated and boosted,” replied the drag queen. “But are you not aware that vaccinated people can also transmit and get COVID? So you’re essentially saying ‘No one should fly.’”
“PS,” Lady Bunny added. “Here’s a pic of you wearing the least effective kind of mask. Maybe YOU shouldn’t be on planes…”
Swalwell did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire, nor did DCCC Chair Maloney.

Multiple Republican lawmakers weighed in on news of the drag queen’s upcoming performance.
“This is actually quite illuminating on a day where we have to pass a bill to find out what’s in it,” Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy told The Daily Wire, referring to the massive omnibus spending bill, the text of which was released very early Wednesday morning.
“Pelosi & House Democrats are rushing through a vote today on a massive $1.5 trillion omnibus spending package b/c they have a previously scheduled retreat in Philadelphia this evening—featuring some interesting “entertainment,’” tweeted Republican Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson. “You can’t make this stuff up.”

“Democrats are headed to a 3 day ‘issues’ retreat in Philadelphia,” tweeted Republican Indiana Rep. Jim Banks. “What’s not on the agenda? Any mention of gas prices or the crime crisis. What is? A discussion on ‘Art and Activism,’ a panel with liberal union leaders, and a drag queen performance.”

Further review of Lady Bunny’s Twitter shows that though a self-identified “progressive,” the drag queen is skeptical of the government’s handling of COVID-19 and has concerns about how the virus will effect the public going forward.
“Creator of Wigstock, Dean Of Drag on RuPaul’s Drag U, comedienne/DJ/singer/staunch progressive & foreskin inspector who loves to laugh,” the drag queen’s Twitter bio says.
Politico Playbook also reported that the House Democrats will be entertained by “Philadelphia’s own ‘The Magnificent’ DJ Jazzy Jeff,” on Thursday. The DJ is “maybe best known as Will Smith’s partner in hip-hop for nearly a decade and his best friend Jazz on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (the original, not the recent reboot),” according to the publication.
President Joe Biden, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, and top White House climate advisor Gina McCarthy will also address the Democratic lawmakers at the annual retreat.
The president will discuss Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and his sanctions agenda towards Russia, the Hill reported. The publication noted that his appearance at a partisan strategy session during such tense times may open him up to GOP criticism at a time when his approval ratings remain low.
