Police began a criminal investigation into the officers' actions and submitted a case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in January 2019.
James and Jennifer Crumbley, captured in Detroit late Friday night, entered not guilty pleas to each of the four involuntary manslaughter counts against them.
The victims told Fox 11 the robbers took two diamond Rolex watches, an iPhone, at least $2,000 in cash and pistol-whipped a female passenger.
"We're still in the early stages of our investigation, but we think these most likely were commercial burglaries, and these stores were targeted because they were closed," said a police lieutenant.
